Ah, September! I love this month when those brief glimpses of fall finally start to arrive. I have pulled up the last of the flowers now, knowing that goldenrod and a few other pollen sources are in bloom.
I have decided to redesign the rows this year after several struggles with flooding last year. I have tilled and amended the soil and plan to create raised beds in hopes of preventing the huge losses I’d suffered in heavier rains last year.
As for the flowers, I have over 2,000 seedlings sprouting in my office that will be ready for planting early to mid October. I will also be able to direct seed about 2,000 more flowers of other varieties around this time as well. These are all considered “cool flowers”, as they like the cooler temperatures. They will be able to set roots in the ground before it gets too cold this winter and will bloom in early spring.
