January has been a cold month, which means I haven’t seen much of the bees. I won’t open the hive if it’s not over 55 degrees and sunny, but when I do, I am sure to check for food stores as well as to provide some protein for them via a pollen substitute. The above photo shows some very happy bees receiving just that. It was nearly all eaten up by the time my inspection was done!
February should bring some warmer temperatures allowing for more inspections, but everybody seemed happy and healthy this month!
