As fall is approaching, the need to go into the hives decreases a bit. The bees are preparing for winter, which means they are focused less on building out comb and more on stocking up for winter. Each time I go into the hive, I am inevitably breaking apart a bit of their wax, so as long as I’m seeing healthy numbers and activity and I can catch a glimpse of some eggs/larvae, I’m not going through the entire hive. I don’t want them to use their energy for repairing damage I have done.
It does seem that both hives have recovered from the aerial spraying a few weeks back and there are no signs of damage to the larvae. Their populations will not be as strong as they could have been for winter, but I believe I can support them through it.
